Prof. Georgi Dimitrov, Dr. Habil.

 

Prof. Dimitrov is professor of sociology with academic interests in sociology of the post-communist transition and sociology of European integration; social reforms, education research, research on corruption.

Prof. Dimitrov is one of the founders of the European Studies Department at Sofia University as well as of the Department of Sociology at South West University. He is a co-founder and chairman of the Association for Social Investigations and Applied Research Practices (1994-2000).

He was a Fulbright Scholar twice - at the University of Chicago and at George Washington University, Washington. He has specialized in historical sociology, European studies and management of higher education in Germany, the Netherlands, Ireland and Belgium. He has carried out over 30 research projects, being the team-leader in most of them. He was a member of the editorial board of the international Journal of Social Science Education (2006-2014).
In 2015 he received the National Award  "Pythagoras" for Excellence in Social Sciences and Humanities. The most significant of his publications are European Civilization Process (2012), Policies for Science at Sofia University (2013), The Mechanism for Cooperation and Verification: Shared Political Irresponsibility (2014), Has the EU's Eastern Enlargement Brought Europe Together? South-Eastern European Perspectives (2016, co-edited with A. Dimitrova) .
